The Pros and Cons of Flexible Mountings for Motor Cycle Power Units

In his article, `Unbalance of the Piston Engine' (The Motor Cycle for April 10),"Ubique" pointed out that the normal types of motor cycle engine cannot be perfectly balanced, no matter how much care is exercised in the design and development work, and in the erection of each unit. All such engines suffer from vibration to a greater or lesser extent. Subsequently, the Editor drew attention to the prevalence of vibration with modern motor cycles, and asked a question which many of his readers must have echoed: is rubber-mounting of the power-unit the solution?...The Pros and Cons of Flexible Mountings for Motor Cycle Power Units continues here-->.

The Redmire Yorkshire SOF meet-up 2004

Setting off for the Northern Sunbeam meet-up, I was just a little apprehensive. On my ride down to the Cotton rally earlier in the Summer, I had broken down and the bike had to face an embarrassing ride on the back of a break down truck to get us back home. But with a few more miles under the tyres since that disappointing day in July, things seemed to be OK. But then just the week before the trip up to Redmire the ‘Beam stopped charging, well it would, wouldn’t it?...The Redmire Yorkshire SOF meet-up 2004 continues here-->.

The LRU series part 1

What the ‘LRU’ up to now?!! seemed a justifiable question to pose given the observations my wife Sue had been making. The evidence was starting to build up with history and travel books littering the house, to say nothing of copious maps everywhere. You might ask what type of person reads maps in bed accompanied by the official Sunbeam Owners Bedside Book?...The LRU series part 1 continues here-->.

The LRU series part 2

As Sue and I alighted from the taxi outside the Villa Francescatti - our 'ostello' - I wondered if she was a little jealous of LRU and I. I had noted her long lingering look as if in amazement that LRU's wheels had kept turning all the way to Verona. In no time at all after settling in we were on our way to sit out at a local restaurant. We could hear the music from the amphitheatre nearby. The warm evening air relaxed us both and there was news from home that our two cats were fine and entrusted into the care of our friend Pauline....The LRU series part 2 continues here-->.

The LRU series part 3

The sea at last ! - and only my second sighting since Sue and I had swum together at the Lido at Venezia. I had arrived at Sperlonga after leaving Roma early in the morning. I had joined the Roma ring road and exited on the Via Casilina. I took LRU up the hairpins to the Monte Casino monastery which was destroyed by the allies and heavily defended by the Germans during World War 2. ( Author Alex Bowlby's book 'Countdown to Casino' describes the battle of the Mignano Gap in 1943 and the part played by the monastery at Monte Casino)....The LRU series part 3 continues here-->.

The LRU series part 4

Wonderful coastal scenery took me back to Sperlonga for my second visit. As I approached my Ostello I stopped off in the town for provisions and euros. I booked in and set off for a swim. Now that I was homeward bound I looked forward to enjoying more swims as I travelled along the Riviera towards Nice. Alas this was not to be for what was to happen to me next would make this impossible....The LRU series part 4 concludes here-->.
